About

.

In everyday life, I am a medical doctor. I have been in general practice in the Byron bay area for 40 years, so you can see I’m gen baby boomer.

My work in natural birth included home and hospital. It absorbed my full attention.
Now that phase is over I am expanding my other passion, medical services at sea.
Why should I care about that? After all, there are plenty of established first aid courses and kits. I currently work in the hospital emergency department and this helps me keep up to date with current treatments and dressing techniques.

The marine environment is unique. I know about this because I lived on my homebuilt yacht for years in the tropics and subtropics. While visiting other yachts at remote anchorages for a sundowner in the saloon or cockpit, as yachties do, the medical nosey parker showed an interest in what supplies existed in these small ships.
It was obvious that maintenance and replenishment did not prioritise over diesel, topsides and rig.

The Ships Doctor Pty Ltd is personally directed and is available to help with medical supplies, carefully chosen.
For example, a boat at sea several days away from medical services may need a kit with instructions for stitching.
Possible scenarios need to be considered. Are elderly or frail folk on board? What if someone becomes psychotic?
Even a simple coral cut can become an ulcer without antiseptics and proper dressings.
Hopefully your medical supplies will expire without use leading to other questions. Has time and humidity turned your adhesive skin tape into a glob?
Rusty tweezers? Antibiotics out of date?

The ships Doctor, that’s me, would like to help with supplies and training on your vessel. I am also available to set sail to provide a mantle of safety for voyages.
